Are you a wine aficionado? Do you simply love a great bottle of wine? If the answer to either question is yes, you will love this experience on the beautiful island of Sardinia.
You will take the free transport from your Cagliari cruise pier to the passenger terminal just one minute away, where your guide will be waiting for you. You will meet your guide outside the passenger terminal and board your transportation to the heart of the island and the village of Sardinia, located approximately 11 miles (18 km) north of Cagliari, for a quick yet scenic drive.
Located in the rolling hills, the small town of Sardinia only has a population of approximately 2,000. For thousands of years, the land and climate have made the wines and olive oil of this region unique. Not to mention the grapes in this area have been grown since Nuraghic times, and some native varieties are famous, like Cannonau, Vermentino, and Carignano. The exact vineyard you will visit depends on the day of the week and local conditions, but all are top-quality producers such as Cantine Argiolas, Pauli, Cantine Pala, and Audarya.
Although this excursion is private, please note that the winery itself is a popular destination, and there may be other guests present during your visit.
When you arrive at the winery, you will be treated to a tasting accompanied by cheese and cured meats to complement the samples. Whether you prefer red wine, white wine, or both, you will have the opportunity to taste two different types of each. The winery staff will explain the production process and characteristics of each wine. You will also have the opportunity to purchase some of the best wines in the winery shop at a discount, just be sure to check with your cruise line for their regulations on bringing wine back on board.
You will spend approximately two hours at the winery, during which your guide will be happy to assist you with his or her expertise. Many of the wineries also feature small museums or displays showcasing century-old winemaking traditions alongside modern facilities.
At the end of your experience, you will be returned to your Cagliari passenger terminal.
