    Frequently Asked Questions
Will they cancel the Juneau Mendenhall Glacier Hike Excursion in Alaska if it is raining?
This Juneau Mendenhall Glacier Hike Excursion operates rain or shine, within safety guidelines. The local shore excursion operator will decide at the time of departure, to postpone or cancel the excursion.
Will it be cold on the glacier?
Juneau temperatures during the summer day average 56 degrees Fahrenheit (13 degrees Celsius). The temperature on the glacier is about 5 degrees cooler, but it can feel up to 15 degrees cooler due to wind chill. Please bring layers of clothing, including a warm hat and gloves.
Is there special training I can do to get ready for this excursion?
Cardiovascular training will increase your endurance, making for a more pleasant experience on the trail. In addition, get yourself out on a hike on uneven trails. People who walk/jog regularly on only flat terrain/treadmills struggle on uneven surfaces because they are not used to the balancing required on uneven surfaces and the use of the small muscles in the legs and ankles that come into play.
Am I guaranteed to visit an ice cave?
No. The sites/features you visit will be chosen by the guide upon arriving at the glacier, and the site/features' condition that day. Your safety is the number one priority. In addition, if your group is slow in reaching the glacier, you may be limited on how many sites/features you can see.
Are there restrooms on the tour?
There is a very basic outhouse at the trailhead.
Will I have a chance to walk on the ice?
For this excursion, you do not get to walk on the glacier.
Do I need to take my passport with me on the Juneau Mendenhall Glacier Hike Excursion to show with my Electronic Shore Excursion Ticket?
No, it is not necessary to take along your passport unless noted by your cruise line or listed in the Restrictions or Notes tab for the excursion. Your local operator has your booking noted. Please arrive with a printed copy of your eticket or digital copy if applicable.

I took this tour with my friends when cruising Alaska. This was a challenge for all of us but it was a breathtaking experience walking on the glaciers and worth every moment. The local guide was very knowledgeable and experienced hiking guide, we couldn´t make it without his instructions and he took good care of us. Getting into the glacier cave was my favorite part. Honestly, this was a unique lifetime experience.

I thought I would never be able to experience something like this, I truly felt like in an expedition movie! Our guides were wonderful, they made us feel safe during the whole activity, and believe me safety is the most important thing to consider when taking an excursion like this. Luckily we were able to enter the glacier and OMG, I cannot start describing what I felt, it is mindblowing!!I How many people out there can say they trekked on a glacier during their vacation?! highly recommend using Shore Excursioneer, the prices they offer are less expensive than the ones offered by the cruise line without compromising the quality. I would definitely go on this excursion again!
